Wenger's last chance to win with Arsenal

Arsenal have failed to win a trophy
in eight years since the FA Cup in
2005. In the following seasons
Wenger's only saving grace has been
Champions League qualification.
Unlike other owners such as Chelsea's
Roman Abramovich, the Arsenal board
has been lenient with the Gunners
manager and haven’t demanded instant
results.
It could be argued that even though
Abramovich's trigger finger is unfair to his
managers, it does create an understanding
that failure to win is not an option.
Roberto Di Matteo was only in the job for
six months and won the Champions
League, something Arsenal have so far
failed do to.
Arsenal fans have been split in their
judgement of Wenger, some believe the
lack of trophies is not good enough for a
club of Aresnal's stature but others are
satisfied with constant Champions League
football.
Tottenham have been pushing for the
fourth spot and have come very close, if
they beat their north London rivals to
Champions League football the
repercussions for Wenger could potentially
be dire.
Wenger has achieved Champions League
qualification for Arsenal for 15 consecutive
years but for the last eight seasons he has
come under scrutiny. Doubters question
how long he can remain trophyless and
still retain the Arsenal manager's job -
surely there comes a time when enough is
enough.
It can be argued Arsenal have been
unlucky to not have won a trophy in this
period, losing in three separate finals, two
in the League Cup and one in the
Champions League.
This season Arsenal look to be pushing
harder than in previous years to for a
trophy by claiming they intend to claim a
marquee signing from their proposed £70
million war chest, despite failure to sign
any of their targets so far.
In this transfer window they have also held
onto their key players, something which
Wenger has been criticised for failing to do
in his recent reign. If he had kept players of
the calibre of Cesc Fabregas and Robin van
Persie, the Gunners would surely be firing
on all fronts.
Something Wenger can be credited for is
that he has created one of the best youth
systems in Europe at Arsenal alongside
managing a transition from Highbury to
the Emirates.
There is no doubt that Arsene Wenger has
achieved great things at Arsenal, however
he cannot dine out on past glories for ever
and as long as Arsenal remain trophy-less
fans will continue to question how long he
may remain at the Emirates.
